Explore The Frankincense Route
An ideological and cultural journey to explore a historical commercial route, once dedicated to the trade of the precious frankincense. Visit the archaeological site of Al Baleed, the ancient capital of Dhofar. The route will lead to the Khor Rori natural reserve, where you will discover the ancient walls of Sumharam (a UNESCO heritage site), an ancient port city founded for the incense and spice trade in the Arabian Sea. Then feast your eyes on the lagoon of Khor Rori, a spectacular natural inhabited by flamingos and silver herons.
Later, travel to the pre-desert belt of the Nejd, the natural habitat of the sacred Boswellia trees, from which the precious resin exudes. Then continue to Wadi Sahnawt, where there are ancient Iron Age storehouses that were used to collect incense. Follow the stone markers laid by ancient caravan travelers to reach the water springs on the way.

Explore one of the largest sinkholes and caves in the region, starting with a drive to the great Tawi Attair Sinkhole, locally known as the “well of birds”.
